NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are finally heading home after an unexpected nine-month stay aboard the International Space Station (ISS). Originally set for an eight-day mission in June 2024, their return was repeatedly delayed due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.
NASA arranged for SpaceX’s Crew Dragon to bring them back, with undocking at 1:05 a.m. ET on March 18, 2025, and a scheduled splashdown off the coast of Florida around 6 p.m. ET. Despite the extended stay, Williams and Wilmore stayed physically and mentally strong, continuing their mission with support from NASA’s medical teams.
