Drummer Zak Starkey, long admired for his powerful performances behind the kit with The Who and Oasis, is stepping back into the spotlight with fresh insight and a renewed sense of purpose. In a rare and candid interview, Starkey shared reflections on his storied career, growing up in a famous musical family, and his current creative pursuits that continue to keep him in demand on the global rock scene.

Known as the son of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, drummer Zak Starkey has always had big shoes to fill — and he’s done so with undeniable skill and style. Despite his legendary lineage, Starkey made it clear early on that he wanted to earn his place in rock history through talent, not family ties. Over the past three decades, he’s done exactly that, lending his distinct drumming style to some of the most iconic bands of modern music.

“People always ask what it was like growing up with Ringo as a dad,” Starkey said. “But the truth is, he let me find my own way. I wasn’t trained by him — I just loved the drums, and eventually, the gigs started coming in.”

Drummer Zak Starkey famously joined The Who in the mid-1990s, touring and recording with the group and earning praise from both fans and critics for his dynamic playing. His stint with Oasis during the early 2000s further solidified his place in rock history, especially on the band’s “Don’t Believe the Truth” album, where his contributions were essential to the record’s raw, rhythmic energy.

Now, Starkey is turning his focus toward new music and mentoring younger artists. He recently launched a label with his partner Sharna “Sshh” Liguz, aiming to amplify emerging talent while preserving the spirit of analog rock and roll. “It’s about giving back,” Starkey said. “There’s so much good music out there — it just needs the right stage.”

As drummer Zak Starkey continues to evolve his sound and explore new ventures, fans remain eager to see what’s next. Whether on stage or in the studio, his contributions to modern music continue to resonate, bridging generations of rock lovers with each beat.
